Bio
Among Hall of Fame shortstops, Arky Vaughan's .318 lifetime batting average
ranks second only to Honus Wagner's .329 mark. Vaughan batted a league-leading
.385 in 1935 - a 20th century record for National League shortstops - and
averaged .300 or better every one of his 10 seasons with the Bucs. Though
not a power hitter, the nine-time All-Star homered twice in the 1941 Midsummer
Classic. He was also a good baserunner, leading the league in runs scored
and triples three years a piece and in stolen bases once.
