Early Wynn, a burly, hard-nosed competitor, treated every ballgame as if
it were a war. His durability helped him lead the American League in innings
three times and also helped him last 23 seasons - an American League record
for pitchers. During his career with the Senators, Indians and White Sox,
Wynn won an even 300 games, highlighted by five 20-win seasons, 49 shutouts
and seven All-Star selections. In 1959, he won the Cy Young Award at the age
of 39, posting a record of 22-10 to lead the White Sox to the pennant.
